The Flag of ISIS

The flag is black with the words La ‘ilaha ‘illa-llah – “There is no God but God” – emblazoned across the top in white in a somewhat coarse, handwritten Arabic script. Below this is a white circle, inside of which are three words: “God Messenger Mohammed.” The flag first appeared online in January 2007, used by IS’s predecessor in Iraq when it was allied to Al-Qaeda to gather believers under one banner to unite them.
