Branch of Al-Qaeda that was primarily active in the Maghreb and Sahel regions. Originated from the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, and in March 2017 merged with Macina Liberation Front, Ansar Dine, and Al-Mourabitoun to form Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin.
